There is nothing worse than a flushing dog that pushes down the field and produces birds out of gun range. Unfortunately, this can happen very quickly once you start hunting over your dog and is very difficult to correct once it begins. It doesn’t take long for a young dog, with a good nose, to learn the birds are down the field and start hunting for themselves. We use the barrel drill to teach dogs to quarter out in front and check in with you at each turn. This drill can be done all year round and will create teamwork between you and your dog. In this course, we will show you how to properly handle your dog on the barrel drill and keep your hunting dog within gun range this fall.
